Volunteer for Advertising

I posted in another thread about my idea to provide volunteer lawn care for my daughters school, then i turned it into volunteering for some sort of advertising. Well, that grabed some peoples attention on here, and wanted to give it it's own thread with an update.

I had a meeting with the Principle Tue. morning, it is a go. She was really excited about the idea. I will provide lawn care at the front entrance of the office, keeping the bushes trimmed, sttandard maintenance. I told her if time permits i will keep a nice area mowed around the school sign, and around the area where she parks her car.

In return ( besides just feeling good about volunteering ), i am allowed to put a business sign at the entrance, and she will be putting my company name, contact info and such in the school newsletter, that goes home to every parent of each child in the school every month.

I am going to ask a couple different mulch places around if they would like to donate a couple of yards of mulch to spruce the place up, if not she mentioned that the PTO, would reimburse my costs for that.

So, maybe just a little idea for the rest of you guys to try out, just stay out of my school district, HAHA.

Lawn care business tips

Oh can you take some before and after pictures?

Could you use a business card holder on one of your signs for parents that might walk by your display?

What about a small fish pond? Would that work out? Would kids like that or would that be over the top? Maybe the kids would like to feed the fish daily?

It could be a great way to get them involved and teach them about nature?

Yea, i can grab some pics.

And that fish pond would be awsome, it may be a little more than they want to deal with. Well actually, who would take care of them during the summer, when out of school, and i bet a water feature on school grounds may not go over to well with school board insurance, haha. But it is a thought.

You could just throw in a 100 feeder fish / gold fish for a few bucks and during summer, just take it out?

Maybe make it one of those small ponds that are preformed?

When I was a kid in elementary school, I loved fish! It would be neat to hear what your daughter thought of it too. You could be a huge hit with the kids LOL

See thats why this site rocks, wouldnt have thought about that. Kids would never know they were new fish every year. And the preformed ponds would be much easier to install.

Might even be able to get local Home Depot or Lowes to donate the supplies.

You know what else that might be cool, I don't know what grade(s) this would work for, but maybe you could put together some sort of coloring book page that discussed the different types of vegetation you might plant or maybe some design that included fish.

We talked about a coloring book design in the past to promote mower safety that might work as well.

Thats a good one also, I also just thought of something else, maybe a little better for the school to except and me, or help from the students to maintain, is a butterfly garden.

Fill it with different plants and flowers that attract butterflys, little coloring books of the plants and life cycle of cattipillar to butterfly. Now that one actually gets my attention, would be much easier for me if i am completely in to the idea.

Damn, Steve, we got great ideas late at night. HaHa.

Oh that is a good idea! What kinds of things would be involved in that? Any special types of plants?

You could also order a couple of butterfly kits where the students could watch the butterflies grow from caterpillar!
